Welcome to the music of the Scalici Alley Project. What you are hearing is a collaboration of sound, groove, spoken word, and lots of improvisation.
I have always been influenced and intrigued by sound and texture whether it comes from a voice, a drum, speech, nature, or other sound source. Like many ofmy favorite artists, I try to combine these influences into a cohesive whole. A composition which is groove oriented, but contains many layers of sonic value.
As a drum set player, I spent many years backing upor opening shows for first generation blues and rock artists including Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins, James Cotton, Mose Vinson, Buddy Guy, and Willie “Big Eyes” Smith. I also have fond memories touring with Gov’t Mule, Chris Duarte, and The Allman Brothers. Thanks for the inspiration and influence.
Eventually, I decided that I wanted to do something different. I was heavily influenced by Mickey Hart and other improvisational music artists. They were sampling voices from African tribal chants, visual artists, and urban soundscapes.
I decided to pursue a similar route. I took this journey mostly alone. Until I met trumpeter, composer, and now life-long friend, Rob Alley.
Rob has been a collaborator in the truest sense of the word. Listening, contributing, guiding, and influencing the outcome of the music that comes from inside my head. He is an indispensable partner.
What you will hear is a blending of natural, acoustic instruments and voice with loops and samples, many of them created by me. My hope is that this music will add value to you and that you will enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it!
She is Magic
